Private Sewing Lessons Terms and Conditions

House of Irwin Sewing Studio provides the following services: Commissioned Sewing Projects, Private Sewing Lessons, and Private Coaching Sewing Sessions. You are contracting with us for one of these services.

Private sewing lessons:

The initial consultation is free of charge and may take up to 45 minutes.  There is no obligation on you to book any lessons.

Lesson plans are created based on the student’s level of experience, expertise and goal(s) in mind. Students may take one or more private lessons as needed. The “Lesson Plan” will be developed through conversation regarding the goals and personal aspirations of the student. A timeline will be created and the student should plan on multiple lessons with homework in between. The student’s budget & timeline will be kept in mind when creating the plan.

What you get at every level-

  • ONE* - 2-hour class
  • Focused attention with a 1:1 student/teacher ratio
  • A safe, clean & nurturing classroom setting
  • Machine & iron safety
  • Machine threading and operation instruction (as needed)
  • Guidance & instruction specific to the lesson plan
  • Lesson plan developed specifically for the individual student (as needed)

*Session options:

  • 1 Session (2 hours) $50
  • 3 Sessions (6 hours) $135 - a 10% savings!
  • 5 Sessions (10 hours) $212.50 - a 15% savings!

Private sewing lessons are available for anyone aged 7+ and are booked in 2+ hour increments.  The cost is $25 per hour (tools, use of our machines are provided).  The curriculum will be tailored according to your needs and level of expertise. Costs for materials and supplies are extra. Our private lessons will give you the flexibility to work on your sewing project.  We will work with you to schedule times based on current availability.  Please note the children 7+ are given priority for after-school lessons (4:30 pm – 6:30 pm).

In order to ensure each student receives enough attention to learn and complete projects in the allotted time frame, our classes are limited to 1 student at a time. The minimum age for our classes is 7 years old, though from time to time we may offer classes for younger ages. Full payment is due on or before the first class date.

Do I need to bring my own Machine and Tools?

We do provide the use of a sewing machine and tools.  However, if you wish to bring your own machine to class so that you can learn about it and become more comfortable using it, you are more than welcome to! Be sure to bring your machine’s instruction manual, as this will be used as needed.

Material:

Unless otherwise agreed upon, all fabric and notions are to be provided by you.  It is recommended that you wash the fabric (subject to fabric choice) before the first class.

Cancellation Policy Prior to Class Starting:

In the event you must cancel your registration for private lessons, please let us know as soon as possible.  Any cancellations or changes to your registration must be made at least 72 hours PRIOR to the class start date in order to be issued a studio credit or partial refund (minus 50% CANCELLATION FEE). Cancellations made less than 72 hours BEFORE the class start date and students who do not show up to class will forfeit their registration fee. Please be sure of your schedule before registering for a class.

Cancellation to attend a class must be given to us in writing. You can do this by sending an email to info@houseofirwin.ca.

In exceptional circumstances when we may have to cancel a class, House of Irwin will give you as much notice as possible and will try to accommodate you on a different date, or refund your fee paid, whichever you prefer.
